Smartphone Buying Guide 2022
If you’re looking to buy a smartphone in 2022, you’ll have to think about a lot of things. We make this video once in a year
But in 2022 there are 6-7 things that you have to think about when buying a smartphone
We’ve said multiple times that you should make a checklist & then buy a smartphone depending on your requirement
But in 2022, smartphone design have changed a lot that you have to think about also fast charging & battery capacity that you have to decide upon
And also prices have gone up a lot so you have to decide what kind of phone you want.
4G or 5G - We’ve got certain clarity, now in 2022 even if you don't buy a 5g phone it should be good enough
Because 4G is here to stay & for the next 6-7 years you’ll be able to use 4G phone with good speeds
In fact BSNL has now started 4G rollout in 2022 so 4G is not going to go anywhere
So if you’re thinking that you only need a 5G phone because of future proofing then you’re wrong as 4G phones are good enough
Another reason why you should look at 4G phones is because you’re paying a 5G tax for a 5G smartphone
And rest other specs of the 5G phone isn't always that good as compared to 4G phones that offer much better value & specs specially in budget segment
So think very carefully about whether you really need a 5G phone?
Also when 5G arrives the cost of the 5G plans are going to be expensive so think about cost as well
Im not saying you shouldn’t buy a 5G phone but if you planning to buy a 15K-18K phone, then many 4G phones are better 5G phones
Another thing that has changed is charging speed. Previously we used to get around 30W charger but now
Fast charging has reached 100W - 150W & we’ll soon see 200W chargers too, so is battery capacity that important?
Because 10 min of fast charge gives you enough juice so you do really need a bigger battery capacity
Do you really need a 6000mAh battery or is a 4500mAh battery enough for you? You need to think about it
A 6000mAh smartphone easily weighs over 200 grams but with fast charging, phones with 4200mAh are also available
Which are very very thin & light and 2022 has been a trend for thin and light smartphones
Software Updates - In 2022 they’ve improved a lot & brands have clearly started to talk about it
Eg: 2 Yrs of OS updates. So brands are committing to it so if you’re planning to use a phone for 2-3 years and you want the latest software
Then you should decide accordingly as there are certain brands which don't even mention about its software update cycle
So look at that. Watch our videos & subscribe to our channel as we clearly tell you about OS updates in our unboxing/review videos
Like & share this video if you’re enjoying this video
We should thank Samsung. They clearly mention their update policy. Eg : 3 Years of OS updates & 4 Years of security updates
Even many mid range phones get 1-2 Years of OS updates so you should definitely look at that.
Storage - Previously 32/64GB were enough in 2020 but in 2022 minimum storage you should look at is 128GB
Camera’s Megapixel is increasing Eg: 50MP/108MP. Soon we might see 200MP as well so when you click a photo / video
Specially with 4K videos, you should have enough storage to store as 64GB isn't enough nowadays
So 128GB should be good enough in 2022 for most of the people & expandable storage is important still today so think about it as well
Multimedia - Most of phones these days come with fast refresh rate displays but if you’re a gamer then look at fast refresh rate
Fast refresh rate is important for gaming Eg : 120Hz / 90Hz.
But for multimedia consumption, Eg: YouTube/Netflix, you should prefer a AMOLED screen
And you get a good AMOLED screen phone even in 15-18K so you should look at that.
Audio is also important. Stereo speakers are very important so you should prefer them as mono speakers aren’t very good so look at stereo speakers
Phones are getting expensive but it’s not always that you need to buy the latest phone. You can even look at 2021 smartphones
And because of rising of prices, smartphones of 2021 are more value for money, there are many phones that have launched about 7-8 months ago
And even today we recommend them. Eg : Redmi Note 10 Pro/ Pro Max are more value for money instead of Note 11 series
So look at phones that are probably older & you’ll get a good deal
Because of chip shortage & pandemic situation, many phones did not launched & now maximum smartphones have launched in the past few months
So phones will keep getting launched but that doesn't mean you should wait for a certain phone
Because you won't see a much difference new phones & phones which will launch in near future
Their specs are not going to be much different as there’s a chip shortage and there aren't many new chips launching
So older chips with little changes are getting launched these days & because of this phone launches have become boring
And we aren't noticing any new innovations too so if you’re planning to buy a smartphone then dont keep on waiting for a new phone
Buy it now & dont keep on waiting for a new phone to get launched
So this was our 2022 Smartphone Buying Guide blog , do watch our previous buying guide blogs as well
This was an incremental blog in 2022. So you should think about these important things before buying a smartphone
